Warning to Potential Tri-Tronics Buyers

Hello,

Well I am not much for posting these kind of messages, I wanted to let
other prospective buyers know about a problem with the G2 Sport 65 BPR
collars. I purchased a Sport 65 BPR last November (2005) to help with
training my French Brittanys. It was my first e-collar so I researched
them very carefully and settled on the Tri-Tronics based on their
reputation.

On the very first outing with the collar, I ran into the problem. As my
dog ran, shook, etc. the collar began to rotate on the dog's neck to
the point where instead of the beeper on top of the neck and the
ecollar on the bottom, it was on the sides of the dogs neck; the beeper
right under the dog's ear! Much to my surprise (and disbelief) when I
examined the collar closer, I realized that the newly re-designed,
smaller G2 ecollar was made as light or lighter than the older beeper
unit. I could hardly believe they would not have recognized this
problem. I put the collar back on my dog and tightened it up as tight
as I could and tried it again. Same problem.

I called Tri-Tronics support to get some help. They told me they were
aware of the problem and led me to believe that they were working on a
solution. I asked them to inform me when they had something. My
mistake was not returning the collar at that time. Since other than
the weight and balance problem, I liked the collar and really did not
want to return it, I decided to wait. I tried them again in the spring
and got a similar response. By late this summer, I still did not have
a solution, I called again. This time, they suggested that I use
Velcro on the inside of the collar to provide some additional friction
and that this was less of a problem with larger breeds. They no longer
suggested that a solution was on the way from Tri-Tronics. Although I
thought the Velcro suggestion was really cheesy on a $350 collar, I
tried it. It worked OK until the dog got wet and the Velcro peeled
off.

I called customer support again and asked to speak with a customer
service manager. After a very curt discussion on the problem and my
suggestion they take the collar back, he refused to take the unit back,
but did assure me that he would speak with engineering and respond to
me in a week or so by email. One month has elapsed and I have heard
nothing.

It is my opinion that Tri-Tronics rushed this collar to market and
overlooked very basic physics. While they could easily design a weight
(which is what I am going to have to do) for the ecollar, doing so
would admit they made a mistake. I suspect that the new G3 will have
the same problem as it still has that clunky, large beeper. Even more
troubling is that a company like Tri-Tronics sold me a design flawed
product and has left me in the cold. Other members in my NAVHDA
chapter have not bought Tri-Tronics since another member and I ran into
this problem, even though they have won 30% off gift certificates from
Tri-Tronics. I could not recommend anyone buy their beeper combo
collars.

Hope this helps some prospective beeper collar buyers make the right
decision.

Gee Darryl, guess you didn't get the last bulletin on that issue?

I think it said, go to sport dog dot com. :-) I just couldn't resist!

Seriously, maybe if you spread the word enough, someone with TT will help
you.
I don't know if they have a better product, but sportdog would never treat
you like that. Trust me, no one has better service. I have received answers
to emails on SUNDAY!

LOL. Yeah, I think that is not a bad suggestion Ken. I certainly will
be looking at them the next time.
